- The theme of Imavision Gallery’s exhibition at Art Taipei 2024

This year, two artists are recommended to participate in the Taipei International Art Fair for the first time. The first one is Aries Hu, who just immigrated to Taiwan from Hong Kong. He was born in 1985. He graduated from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia and has participated in the Art Central International Art Fair in Hong Kong many times. The other is a lacquer painting artist Chen Weiyi, who graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Tunghai University and was born in 1963.

Aries Hu's works have undergone a big change since 2021, from very concrete and realistic flower themes to world landscapes. However, his landscapes still continue to have colorful flowers, traveling between the mountains of the universe, symbolizing the infinite cycle of life energy.
The sources of landscape images are all derived from observations of life and travel. Recently, pixel elements of images have also been added to works to explore the interchange between reality and virtuality through people's eyes in the evolution of science and technology, and the artist's with life experience coexisting through technological tools, how should artistic creation express the creative context and continuation? He will give the audience a new visual experience through the presentation of canvas and color.

Chen Weiyi graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Tunghai University in 1987 and won the Lion Art Newcomer Award - Best Choice in the same year.
Teacher Chen Weiyi's lacquer painting creation has broken away from the thinking of traditional lacquer craftsmanship from the beginning and moved towards the direction of integrating with painting. It is based on the exquisite and delicate texture of lacquerware, but abandons the original complicated and diverse techniques, leaving only simple painting elements. It is a simple painting, but it is performed in an impure way. Drawing on the spirit of Chinese gongbi painting, he vividly depicts the details of flowers and birds, sometimes with simplified cut-out compositions to add more artistic conception to the blank space. Then, Western sketching concepts are added to incorporate the changes in light and shadow of objects, making the picture more realistic and lifelike. The use of lacquerware "maki-e" or other techniques in works reveals the essence of lacquerware and adds unique style and taste to the works.

The paintings start from sketching, observing and recording the growth and changes of life around them. Flowers bloom in response to the solar terms, plants change color in response to cold and heat, and birds migrate with the seasons. Every time is touching, and every year brings surprises. My works condense this moment and present ordinary or extraordinary images. Many people always have relevant theoretical support behind their creations, or there are many special meanings in them. I don’t think too much about it. I just describe what I see around me, capture every moment of chance encounter, and record every short episode in life.

Danny Amazonas, a fiber-art artist, was born in Taiwan in 1947, grew up in Brazil, and lived in the United States. With innovative visual composition and unique craftsmanship, Danny Amazonas has created a unique style in international fiber art.

In May 2024, the famous construction company in Taichung City - Panyu Construction Foundation invited to hold a fiber art solo exhibition,
In 2023, his works were invited to the solo exhibition "Fantasy of Cloth" Liu Dong's fiber art solo exhibition/Hong Kong Artspace K Gallery,
It was also invited to participate in the Fashion and Textile Museum of London, UK, and received great response. This will also further promote the fiber art created in Taiwan to the international market.

He loves color and is good at sewing skills in fiber art making. After deconstructing a large number of fiber fabrics of different colors, they are reassembled with innovative visual experience. Danny Amazonas leads a new way of expressing fiber art in Taiwan with new ideas and techniques. Many of his works have been exhibited in overseas European and American international events and museums, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Luxembourg, France, Italy and Spain, as well as Japan and Taiwan.

Tseng Hsin Yao, a Taiwanese living in the United States. He graduated from San Francisco Art University with a master's degree. He has held two solo exhibitions at Imavision Gallery. He is 37 years old this year.

The most impressive thing about Tseng Hsin Yao's creations is the integrated presentation of the independent textures of different elements on the painting, thus representing his unique aesthetic point of view.

If you look closely at Tseng Hsin Yao's works, you will see that many extremely thin and extremely thick brushwork are intertwined. In the light and thin part of the painting, the original texture of the canvas can be seen, while in the thick part, you can feel the solid volume of the oil painting. With the multi-level tonality between the two extremes, in addition to the sense of space in the composition, it also forms an invisible charm that flows and expresses itself in the scene.

Regarding the dialectic between texture and space, Tseng Hsin Yao also refers to the "Eastern and Western Aesthetic System" of self-enlightenment, and discusses it together. Tseng Hsin Yao developed a series of impressionist paintings based on the concept of "blank space" in oriental landscape painting while studying for a master's degree in fine arts at San Francisco Art University. Tseng Hsin Yao blended and superimposed "Oriental blank freehand brushwork" and "Impressionist light perception". Through the complementarity and trade-off of the two, a new impressionistic realistic painting style with oriental aesthetics is shaped.

Peng Weixin's continuous breakthroughs in rock-color painting not only give the picture a new artistic conception and composition, but also make bold reforms and innovations in the material of rock color. He grinds the rock color particles more finely, so that the rock color can show a richer and wider color gamut.

Peng Weixin's unique new method is to display the rock-color on the painting freely like ink painting. At first glance, Peng Weixin's rock-color paintings look like ink wash at first glance, but they can retain the special color thickness and chroma of rock-color, thus presenting a great tension of visual expression and creating a more vivid new realm of art.

The other is the rock-color-painting artist Hsu Sheng Yuan, who graduated from the Research Institute of Taiwan Normal University. In 2014, he won the first place in rock-color-paining competition in the "National Art Exhibition". This year, he proposes to explore his research on the theme of lotus with the meticulous realistic technique of rock color, and skillfully use it in the innovation and breakthrough of rock-color material, and advance the color gamut technique of rock-color by a big step. At the same time, it also greatly improves the old problem of the traditional rock color becoming cloudy after layers of colors are stacked. Even with the rapid progress of AI-generated art in recent years, Hsu Sheng Yuan is still convinced that the painting method of this new rock color technique will not be replaced by new AI technological art.

Wu Youxin, who teaches at National Taiwan Normal University, and was promoted to professor in the Fine Arts Department of National Taiwan Normal University in 2024.
published a new work this year with the lines of oriental calligraphy, coupled with the rhythm of music, in the floating abstract lines, presenting the characteristic beauty of a modern girl. Wu Youxin is also in the process of creation, constantly looking for the co-constructive relationship between reality and virtuality. For Wu Youxin, the composition of these pictures all show the changes in his heart.

Wu Youxin insisted on taking fine brushwork ink as the main creation all the way, and constantly looked for the possibility of breakthrough and creation in the development of today's ink. In May 2023, Wu Youxin will hold a solo ink painting exhibition at Tainan Fine Arts Museum.

Chiu Yi Ning graduated from National Taiwan University of Arts and won several ink wash awards during his school days. In 2017 and 2021, he won the gold medal in the ink painting category of the "National Art Exhibition" twice. In 2018, he won the Zhongshan Youth Art Award - Zhongshan Award.

Chiu Yi Ning's picture composition breaks away from the framework of traditional ink painting. After mastering the expression essence of brush and ink lines, she then develops and presents new contemporary thinking. The stories that Chiu Yi Ning wants to tell in his creations are all discussed from his own living space. The scattered stacked houses in the paintings, the landscaping and mountain building, and the rocks and trees are all looking for the peach blossoms in his heart.

In November 2024, the Art Center of Jingyi University invited Chiu Yining to hold a solo exhibition of ink painting.

Taro Tasaki's ceramic works will be invited to participate in exhibitions in 2024 by the Late Founding President Foundation of Tokyo University of the Arts, Japan, and the Ibaraki Prefectural Museum of Art. This will be an important year for Taro Tasaki in his art career.

Taro Tasaki's ceramic works are based on the study of ancient patterns. Such as the Mayan civilization's evil patterns, ancient Chinese "taotie script", ancient Egyptian characters, etc. Tasaki then internalized and fused it to create his own special art pattern.

Tasaki's theme of cat god is based on Japanese stone lions. According to legend, the stone lion was the Sphinx in ancient Egypt, and it was passed down to China and turned into a lion, and when it entered Japan, it became a stone lion. Tasaki was very fond of these myths and legends that spanned eras and countries, and transformed them into his works. In recent years, Tasaki's works have been collected by Japanese art museums and private art museums. The first exhibition in Taiwan was also warmly welcomed and loved by collectors.

The other is Yuko Nagayama, a famous watercolor artist from Japan. March 2024, he was invited to hold a watercolor solo exhibition at the most famous Wako Art Center in Ginza, Tokyo, Japan.
She graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Tokyo University of the Arts and is one of the most representative watercolor painters in Japan today. Yuko Nagayama has exhibited dozens of times at home country and abroad, and is currently a lecturer at the Oil Painting Department of Musashino Art University. And successfully created the watercolor school. Yuko Nagayama is also often invited to hold exhibitions and teaching activities in Italy/France and other places.

Yuko Nagayama's works are a lot of creations and depictions of themes related to "life". There is a process of flowers blooming, falling, and fruiting. Through the randomness of watercolor, the unpredictable characteristics of water media are brought into full play. By creating the current temperature and humidity changes, and supplemented by good control of the effect of pigment smudges on the paper, many amazing works have been created.

Shoichi Okumura is a Japanese artist who was born in Beijing and grew up in Japan. He studied for a master's degree at the Central Academy of Fine Arts during his research studies. Therefore, the style of his works also presents the appearance of the fusion of various cultures. Okumura's latest creations present the rich colors of Japanese ukiyo-e paintings, as well as the delicate and meticulous brushwork of Chinese paintings. The unique rock colors and silk texts reflect a vivid visual vocabulary with a contemporary feeling.
In February 2024, he was invited to exhibit at the Marunouchi Building Art Gallery in Tokyo, Japan.

In the planning for the exhibition at Art Taipei 2024, Imavision gallery continues to pay attention to Taiwan's cutting-edge and overseas artists, and actively supports the younger generation of artists so that after they graduate from the art academy, they can stick to the road of artistic creation as wish, and constantly expand and create a new aesthetic horizon under the active research and exploration of the concept of the new era.
